Airport and arrival
Fly into Naha International Airport (OKA). We recommend landing around lunchtime on 17 October, so you can settle in before the welcome dinner. Book a late flight home on 24 October: we fly you back from Kumejima to Naha that day, and you'll want time to make your onward connection.
Getting around is easy. A van takes us to the kite spots around Okinawa every day, the flight to Kumejima on day four is booked for you, and both are in the price. The only flights you book yourself are the ones to and from Okinawa.
Visas and insurance
Check Japan's visa rules before you book flights. If you're travelling from India, China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Türkiye, South Africa, Russia, Pakistan or Bangladesh, look at them first. That list isn't complete, so confirm with your airline or Japan's official visa information for your own passport.
Travel and medical insurance aren't included in the trip price either, so arrange your own cover when you book your flights.
Kite gear on the domestic flights
Both domestic flights (Naha to Kumejima and back) include a 23 kg kite-bag allowance, and we can store your gear at the hotels. Bring your own kite, board and wetsuit: this trip has no rentals.
Evenings and days without wind
Only breakfast is included at both hotels. Lunch is usually an easy bento, and dinner is your call: there's plenty of choice near both hotels, so evenings aren't tied to one plan.
October isn't quite full winter yet, so when the wind takes a day off we go on land excursions, hikes or snorkelling trips instead. We plan that on the day, around what the weather actually does.
