About Kite Mecca
Founded in February 2022 by Lucas, a Polish kitesurfing pioneer with over 20 years of experience, Kite Mecca is a kitesurfing school at El Portillo beach in Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic. The school teaches all levels through private, one-on-one lessons and also offers Sitkiting, an adaptive kitesurfing method for wheelchair users.

Is El Portillo good for beginners?
Yes. The water is flat, especially at low tide, making it ideal for beginners and freestyle riders. More advanced riders typically head to nearby Punta Poppy or Playa Coson.
Are there any hazards in the water?
There are small, scattered pieces of reef that are easy to spot and avoid in sunny conditions, though some can surface at the lowest tide. There are no dangerous jellyfish, sea urchins, stingrays, or sharks.
