About Madeira Surf Center
Madeira Surf Center is a surf school in São Vicente on the north coast of Madeira, teaching private, semi-private, group and family surf lessons for all ages at Seixal Beach and Baía dos Juncos. It was founded by Ruben Afonso and Andreia, who also run the North Coast Guest House that hosts the school's surf camp stays. Alongside lessons the school offers surf and SUP rentals, guided SUP tours, surf photo shoots and a surf shop.

Madeira Surf Center — common questions
Does Madeira Surf Center teach complete beginners?
Yes. No prior experience or swimming skills are required for the surf lessons. Students should be in good physical condition and tell the instructor about any health conditions beforehand.
Is there a minimum age for surf lessons?
Group surf lessons are open from age 12. For private lessons the recommended minimum age is 6, with a parent present.
What should I bring to a surf lesson?
Comfortable clothing for the day, a bathing suit, a towel, sunscreen, water and something light to eat. Wetsuit, board, leash, wax, fins and insurance are included.
Does the school offer lesson packs or surf camps?
Yes. Lesson packs of 3, 5, 7 and 10 classes are available, as well as surf camp stays of a weekend, a short break, one week or two weeks at the North Coast Guest House.
Do lessons take place when it rains?
Rain does not stop lessons. Sea conditions decide, and the school informs students if the weather changes significantly. Lessons can be rescheduled based on availability, preferably 48 hours in advance.
Can experienced surfers rent gear without a lesson?
Yes. The school rents surfboards, SUP boards, bodyboards, wetsuits and soft car racks, with advice on spots, tides and currents.
