About El Cuyo Kite School

El Cuyo Kite School was founded in 2013 by Humberto Ramirez, who introduced kitesurfing to three young people from the fishing village of El Cuyo. The school trains local instructors and athletes and aims to make kitesurfing a driver of the local economy. It is based in El Cuyo, a small fishing village inside the Ria Lagartos Biosphere Reserve.

  • Instructor Mario was selected to represent Yucatan and Mexico at the Youth Olympic Games in the Dominican Republic.
  • More than 10 young people from El Cuyo practice kitesurfing through the school, with about half competing nationally.
