Learning to Kitesurf in Dénia: Lessons, Prices and What to Expect
What learning to kite in Dénia on the Costa Blanca looks like: the beaches, which lesson to pick and what it costs, from €50 for a first hour.
Dénia is a port town on the Costa Blanca, roughly halfway between Alicante and Valencia, and kite schools there teach almost all year round. A first hour costs €50, and a full beginner course of 10 hours €400, with the equipment included. Here is what a course looks like and which lesson to choose.
Where you learn in Dénia
Kitesurfers in Dénia use three beaches. Les Deveses on the north coast is where beginners usually start, with a school and a rental shop on the beach and levante wind. Playa dels Molins gets the strong north-west wind in winter. Playa Escollera Norte, behind the north breakwater of the port, has flat water and is for riders who already have some experience. The details are in our Dénia kite spot guide.
KS Kitesurf Wingfoil Center is based directly on the beach of Els Molins. It runs lessons seven days a week, all year, and teaches in French, English, German and Spanish. Every lesson comes with a walkie-talkie system, and the school keeps a safety boat and a jet ski close to the students.
Which lesson to pick
| Kitesurf lesson | Price per person | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Discover, 1 hour | €50 | Your first lesson: wind direction, the wind window, piloting the kite, safety rules, launching the kite |
| Progress, 2 hours | €80 | From your discover level: body drag, waterstart and kite piloting, then jibes, jumps and riding upwind |
| Progress, 4 hours | €160 | Two lessons of 2 hours |
| Progress, 6 hours | €240 | Three lessons of 2 hours |
| Course, 10 hours | €400 | Learn and progress in 10 hours; the school adds one 2-hour lesson for free |
The school's own advice is that nobody can say exactly how many lessons you will need, because every student is different, but the ideal minimum for a beginner is three lessons over three days: one discover lesson and at least two progress lessons. The best option is to learn during one week and come every day. A lesson has one or two people with one coach, and groups and families are welcome; tell the school how many you are.
| Wing foil lesson | Price | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Discover, 2 hours | €80 | Understand the wind direction, learn to stand up on the foil and to keep straight |
| Progress, 2 hours | €120 | Learn to fly and keep flying: jibes, upwind, traction and jumps |
You can request any of these lessons on the Dénia kite page, the Dénia wing foil page or the KS Kitesurf Wingfoil Center profile: choose your dates, send the request, and the school confirms the time with you.
