Pro & Advanced Riders Camp in Watamu

7 days, all-inclusive · For pros & advanced riders · with Kite Adventures Watamu

What the week looks like

You stay in villas about five minutes from the beach, with breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. The airport transfer is arranged both ways, so the only thing you book yourself is the flight. Around the kite sessions, the week includes a full-day safari in Tsavo National Park and a dolphin trip with snorkelling. According to the school, everything on the ground is planned for you.

Who this camp is for

Riders who already kite on their own. The camp skips the lessons and gives you a full week of coached sessions with video and photo analysis, so more of each day is spent riding. It is the same crew that teaches the regular lessons at Turtle Bay Beach, with a whole week to work with you.

Wind and season in Watamu

Watamu has two named trade winds rather than one thermal system. The Kaskazi blows from the north-east, cross to cross-onshore, and typically picks up from late morning; sources put it at around 20–25 knots (the local school reports 22–25, up to 27), so a 9 m kite covers most sessions with a 12 m towards evening. The Kuzi blows from the south-east and is the windier season, averaging around 25 knots and occasionally above 30 (the local school reports generally 20–27, up to 30 in July), so riders size down to around 7 m. Both winds are described as constant and cross-onshore, which makes the bay forgiving.

Questions about this camp

Do flights and visa cost extra?

Yes. The camp covers everything on the ground for seven days; flight tickets and, if you need one, your Kenyan visa are booked and paid separately.

Is the airport transfer included?

Yes, both ways.

When is the best time to come to Watamu?

Two seasons: Kaskazi (December to March, some sources say into April) is the warm, steady one and the usual pick for learning, with water around 30 °C and no seaweed on the beach. Kuzi (June to September) blows harder and suits riders who already know what they are doing, but it is cooler and can bring seaweed. April to May is the rainy season and October to November are transition months; sources disagree on how much wind they bring, so plan around the two main seasons.

How do I get to Watamu?

Malindi airport (MYD) is the closest, about 20 minutes by road, but usually means a connection through Nairobi. Mombasa (MBA) is about two hours by road and is often the cheaper flight. Tuk-tuks run between the kite spots along the bay for a few hundred shillings.

How does booking work?

Choose your arrival date and how many people, see the total and send the booking request. Kite Adventures Watamu confirms by email and tells you how to pay. Nothing is paid on kitesurfing.me.
