Best Time to Kitesurf in Hurghada: Wind and Water by Month
Hurghada gets wind all year, but not the same wind. When it is strongest, how warm the water is, and which months suit a first kite course.
The best time to kitesurf in Hurghada is May, June, August and September, when every source we checked rates the wind as strong and reliable, usually 15 to 25 knots from the north to north-northwest. March, April and October are good too. From November to February the wind is lighter and less consistent, but you still get kiteable days most weeks, and the water stays around 21 to 25 °C. July is the month sources disagree on.

| May and June | Strong and reliable, 15–25 knots | About 24–26 °C | All levels |

Why the wind is usually stronger in the afternoon
Much of Hurghada's wind is helped along by the desert heating up during the day, so it often builds towards the afternoon. Along much of the coast it starts more offshore in the morning and turns side-shore from the left around midday. That is why schools usually plan lessons for late morning and afternoon rather than early morning. Thekitespot also reports a coast guard rule that no one may kite after 5 pm, so the afternoon is your window.
The July question
Thekitespot counts July as Hurghada's windiest month, with about 85 percent of days reaching at least three daylight hours of 4 Beaufort or more. Windsurf.co.uk names March to June and August to October as the best months, and the instructor who teaches on the shallow beach between Hurghada and El Gouna describes July as generally weaker and less consistent. There is no published month-by-month measurement for Hurghada itself to settle it. If July is your only option, go; just keep a day or two of flexibility.
Best months for a first kite course
For beginners, the wind matters less than the water. Hurghada has several shallow, sandy teaching areas: the lagoons north of town toward El Gouna, Seahorse Bay in the north, and the sandbanks around Magawish, reached by boat. In the main season from March to October you rarely lose a lesson to no wind. In winter, schools often teach on the lighter days with bigger kites, and the water is cooler, so a thicker wetsuit is more comfortable.
- Plan four to six days for a 6 to 12 hour beginner course, so a calm day does not cost you the course.
- Book lessons for late morning or afternoon, when the wind is usually steadier and side-shore.
- Ask whether hotel pick-up is included: many spots are on resort land, and where you ride depends on how you get there.
What to wear in the water
The Red Sea off Hurghada is warm all year: about 21 °C in February and March, rising to about 28 °C in August. Daytime air temperatures are around 22 °C in January and above 35 °C from June to September. A rash vest or shorty is enough for most of the year; on windy winter days a thicker full suit makes a long session more comfortable. In summer, sun protection matters more than the wetsuit.
