Jericoacoara ("Jeri") is a village in Ceará, northeast Brazil, set inside a national park of sand dunes and lagoons. The main beach at nearby Preá is a long, open, side-on shore spot with choppy water and small waves, while flatwater lagoons such as Guriú and Tatajuba lie a short drive or downwind away. It is best known for very reliable trade-wind conditions during the second half of the year and for long downwind trips along the Ceará coast.
Winds are side-on / cross-shore trade winds, typically around 20-30 knots during the high season and often over 30 knots in the afternoons; several operators report wind on about 95% of days in the windiest months (August-November). The kite season runs roughly July to January (sometimes into February), with the windiest, most consistent conditions from August/September through November.
Jericoacoara Airport (JJD, near Cruz) is about 30-40 minutes from the village. Fortaleza International Airport (FOR) is the main long-haul gateway, roughly 4.5-5 hours away by private 4x4 transfer (buses take around 6-7 hours). The final stretch into Jeri is over sand dunes and requires a 4x4/buggy.
